"The final count down:"3 things not to procrastinate on for your wedding

Author: Keri - Internet Sales CoordinatorAugust 2008

So the count down is on until the “Big Day.” In exactly 43 days, I will be walking down the aisle to say my “I dos.” I can tell you one thing…the pressure is on! What is a girl to do, when she lives in one state and her wedding is in another, besides start to freak out? There are so many final touches I still have to accomplish to make my dream wedding become a reality. Sometimes when I lay in bed at night, I have visions of wedding stuff dancing in my head, instead sugar plums. In the final stretch, you begin to feel like the wedding is taking over your every thought and action. Initially, when you first become engaged you are so excited that you do not realize how much hard work is ahead of you, especially if you are a perfectionist like me. I cannot tell you how long it has taken me to make decisions because I keep thinking that I may find something better or new, right around the corner. If I can offer three helpful tips to any brides or future brides out there: Do not procrastinate or be indecisive and make sure you have someone you can lean on!

If I did not have my mom as my rock for my many wedding errands, I would be up a creek without a paddle. Here is a list of the top 3 things that I deferred to the end. My recommendations to you are to get ahead of the game, instead of falling behind!

Invitations - For example, I am around invitations day in and out and you would think it would have been one of the first things on my long list that I crossed off as completed. WRONG! I fell in love with both my Save the Dates (Love of Chocolate) and Wedding invitations (Square Shimmer) instantly, however, I could not commit because I kept on thinking, “what if something better comes along?” After many months of pondering and cutting it to close for comfort on the etiquette guidelines on when to send out what, I ended up going with the my original invitation loves.

Wedding Favors - There are so many different options available for favors, how can you ever just choose one? You can do favor boxes, bags, or tins, cookie cutters, wine tumblers, edible favors and the list goes on and on. I had originally started out doing a wine-themed wedding but that quickly changed when I switched my main color from Bordeaux to Frappacino. I had it all figured out. I was going to do wine stoppers, wine corks to hold my name cards; I was setting the tone for my own Tuscan wedding. Then out of nowhere, I saw the color Frappacino and it was love at first sight and my Tuscan wedding was out the window! So now here I am, back at square one trying to decide what token of appreciation I will give to my guests on the most memorable moment thus far in my life. Unfortunately, for me the decision on this is still pending!

Flowers - This one was tricky! I found my first florist right away, he was perfect. He knew my Reception site inside and out, so much that he has his own key to the building. However, he did not have many options to select from for table linens and center piece holders. So I, being the finicky bride, decided to go window shopping to see what else is out there. As luck would have it, I ended up finding my new florist who has options galore. Now I have everything that I could possibly imagine at the tips of my fingers and I still cannot put it into stone. I have not made any final decisions on my flowers, linens or holders but at least I have a florist. This has been a lesson to myself, when you are a bride sometimes less is more not more is more!

The moral of my story is never second guess your original gut instincts. If you love something initially, go with it; check one more thing off that lengthy list. It will save you a lot of sweat, headaches and sleepless nights. The more you have accomplished towards the end, the better off you will feel. Most importantly you will be able to focus the upcoming journey with the love of your life!
